Inter-Terminal Transportation at Taiwan Taoyuan Airport (TPE)

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) offers efficient and well-organized transportation between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. As the airport is large and terminals are separated, passengers can choose between several free options including the automated Skytrain, Airport MRT and shuttle buses. These systems ensure fast and smooth transfers both airside (after security) and landside (before security).

Always check your departure terminal in advance, switching terminals can take time during peak hours.

Skytrain (Automated People Mover)

The Skytrain is the main and fastest way to transfer between terminals. It operates automatically and connects both terminals directly.

  • Location: Inside terminals (airside & landside stations)
  • Duration: ~2–3 minutes
  • Frequency: Every 2–6 minutes
  • Price: Free
  • Operating hours: 24 hours (night service on demand)

The system runs continuously and connects Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 efficiently.

Use the Skytrain for connections after security—it’s the fastest and easiest option.

Airport MRT (Train)

The Airport MRT also connects both terminals and can be used as an alternative transfer option, especially landside.

  • Location: B1/B2 level in both terminals
  • Duration: 3–5 minutes (1 stop)
  • Price: Free for inter-terminal transfer (with card)
  • Operating hours: approx. 06:00 – 00:30

The MRT connects Terminal 1 (A12) and Terminal 2 (A13) stations.

Passenger Tip: Useful if you are landside and already near the MRT station.

Inter-Terminal Shuttle Bus

A free shuttle bus operates between terminals, mainly used during late-night hours when MRT service is limited.

  • Location: Outside Arrivals areas
  • Duration: 10–15 minutes
  • Frequency: Every 25–35 minutes
  • Price: Free

The shuttle bus is the best option during night hours or if carrying bulky luggage.

Use the shuttle bus only if MRT is closed or Skytrain is not convenient.

Walking Between Terminals

In some cases, it is possible to walk between terminals within restricted (airside) areas.

  • Walking time: 15–20 minutes
  • Availability: Limited to certain areas

Walking is not recommended with luggage. Use Skytrain instead.
